Pak serious to make garment sector competitive: official
Pakistan is taking all necessary measures to make the value-addedtextileindustry competitive and vibrant in the global market, adviser to prime minister on commerce, textile, industries, production and investments Abdul Razak Dawood recently told a delegation of Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PRGMEA).
PRGMEA made a detailed presentation to the advisor and made suggestions to take the industry out of crisis and raise thecountry's exports.
Dawood assured the delegation that a level playing field would be provided to the zero-rated export industry.
Urging Dawood to work on rationalizing duty structures and minimise taxes and duties on import of raw materials, PRGMEA central chairman Mubashar Naseer Butt said the value-added garments sector has shown 11.22 per cent growth in 2017-18 despite internal and external challenges.
The ministry should also discourage export of raw material and encourage export of value-added items, he added.
