The global yarn production increased by 3.4% in the fourth quarter

Stronger output in Asia and South America helped to boost global yarn production by 3.4% in the fourth quarter, while global fabric production also rose, with all regions but Europe showing increases.

Figures from the International Textile Manufacturers Federation (ITMF) show yarn production in Asia increased 3.7% quarter-on-quarter, while South America recorded a 2.6% rise. In Europe and North America, production fell by 13.3% and 1.4%, respectively.

On an annual basis, global yarn production rose 3.7% and was supported by a 3.5% increase in Asia and by 21% growth in South America. However, in Europe and North America, yarn output fell year-on-year, by nearly 4% and 7.8%, respectively.

Global fabric production increased by more than 3% compared to the previous quarter and by a moderate 0.6% year-on-year, with output in Asia and South America increasing 0.6% and 4.7% year-on-year, respectively. In Europe, however, output fell by nearly 7% year-on-year.

On a yearly basis, global fabric inventories decreased by 5%. Asia's fabric stocks decreased by 0.4% annually and South America's inventories fell by over 16%. In Europe, stocks declined by over 2%, while in North America they edged up 0.8% year-on-year.
