Mexican garment firm to restart as workers end strike
An ongoing strike by workers at a Mexican garment firm, Hilaturas Tejidos y Acabados Xtra, SA de CV (formerly Ocotlán Industries, Ltd.), situated in Jalisco State has come to an end after a gap of four years, the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare has announced.
The strike at the garment firm ended after the 429 striking workers agreed on a new revised wage scale with the company representatives.
The Trade Union of Textile, Garment and Allied Industries of Mexico said the company has agreed to compensate the workers for unpaid wages during the strike period. In case, the textile firm fails to abide by its commitment to compensate, the Jalisco Federal Conciliation and Arbitration (JFCA) will seize the company’s assets.
The workers will continue to do the same job of manufacturing of garments that they were doing earlier, before they resorted to strike.
The Ministry of Labour said the revival of operations at the garment manufacturing firm has saved over 400 jobs.
